The Fine Print = Apple iTablet WIN!

In a prior post, I teased all of you with this: What Vook’s running into here is precisely why the iTablet is going to be a monstrous hit — even beyond the monstrous hit of the iPhone. I won’t explain that statement right now. I’m saving that for a future post. The post I did earlier today [

New Yorker jackets by M-Edge

December - 15 - 2009 By: reina evita

Ok I know I already have a Kindle cover, but those New Yorker jackets by M-Edge ($49.99) have me drooling!  I have this serious love for The New Yorker, and these jackets are really beautiful!  I can’t decide which I love best – though I’m a really big fan of the Bookopolis one.  These are made of genuine leather and hurrah, use the hinge system and elastic straps.  They’re also compatible with the M-Edge book light – super important for an in-bed reader like me! Also it seems that today M-Edge is offering a buy one, get one 10% off deal!  Sooo tempting, except I have no reason to buy two jackets…

Q&A: A chat with Dave Long of Exponential Entertainment

December - 15 - 2009 By: TechFlash

Dave Long used to work in real estate, so his path into the high-tech business isn't a typical one. In the early 1990s, Long started tinkering with the idea of using actual clips from movies in the clues of a new entertainment trivia game. At the time, Long struggled to work with VHS tapes to splice together movie clips, and the idea sat on the shelf for nearly a decade until the DVD emerged.

Authors Guild to Random House head: What’s in the water over there?

December - 15 - 2009 By: Nate the great

You probably remember the letter sent by Random House charmain Markus Dohle on Friday. He informed agents that the existing contracts with RH granted ebook rights by default even where digital rights are not mentioned. The Author's Guild has posted a response to Mr. Dohle's letter. They take the position that he is 100% wrong, and the evidence weighs heavily in their favor. Quote: The misunderstandings reside entirely with Random House. Random House quite famously changed its standard contract to include e-book rights in 1994. (We remember it well -- Random House tried to secure these rights for royalties of 5% of net proceeds, a pittance. We called it a "Land Grab on the Electronic Frontier" in our press release ... More

Shortcovers changes name to Kobo, updates iPhone app.

December - 15 - 2009 By: Nate the great

A sharp eyed MR member noticed that Shortcovers has changed its name this morning. It's now known as \. They also updated their iPhone app with the new name. I was a little surprised when I looked over the new site. I hadn't realized that Shortcovers supported Adobe DE DRM, or that it had reader apps for Palm Pre, iPhone, and Android. Kobo also just added 1.8 million books from the Internet Archive to its store.

Unemployment holds steady

December - 15 - 2009 By: TechFlash

The Washington state unemployment rate continues to hover above nine percent, a sign that it may be tough to recover some of the jobs that have been lost over the past 12 months. The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November stood at 9.2 percent, down slightly from 9.3 percent in October. That was just below the U.S. unemployment rate of 10 percent.
